Shattila Ekadashi falls on January 25, 2025, and is a significant observance dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The term “Shattila” is derived from “shat,” meaning six, and “tila,” meaning sesame seeds, highlighting the importance of sesame in six different forms during this day. Devotees engage in rituals such as consuming sesame seeds, using them in bathing, offering them in sacrifices, and donating them, which is believed to purify the body and soul.

Observing a fast on Shattila Ekadashi is considered highly meritorious. Devotees abstain from grains and certain foods, focusing on spiritual practices like prayer, meditation, and reading scriptures. Engaging in charitable acts, especially donating food and essentials to those in need, is also emphasized, as it is believed to cleanse past sins and promote spiritual growth.

At the Hindu Temple Society of New Mexico, we will commemorate Shattila Ekadashi with special prayers and rituals dedicated to Lord Vishnu. We invite you to join us in these observances to seek divine blessings and immerse yourself in the spiritual significance of this auspicious day.
