Pradosham is a sacred occasion dedicated to Lord Shiva, observed twice a month on the 13th day (Trayodashi) of both the waxing and waning moon phases. It is a time of heightened spiritual energy, believed to be particularly auspicious for seeking Lord Shiva’s blessings to remove negativity, overcome obstacles, and attain inner peace and prosperity.

In Hindu tradition, Pradosham symbolizes the time when Lord Shiva drank the halahala poison during the churning of the cosmic ocean (Samudra Manthan) to save the universe. His selfless act of consuming the poison represents the destruction of negativity and the preservation of life and dharma. Devotees observe this occasion with fasting, meditation, and prayers to cleanse their minds and align their souls with the divine.

At the Hindu Temple Society of New Mexico, the Pradosham celebration includes special Abhishekam (ritual bathing of the Shiva Lingam), the chanting of sacred mantras, and offering of bilva leaves, fruits, and flowers to Lord Shiva. Devotees gather to sing bhajans, perform Aarti, and meditate during this auspicious twilight period, which is believed to be the most favorable time to worship Lord Shiva and seek his grace.

Please join us for this spiritually enriching event as we come together to honor Lord Shiva and connect with his divine energy. Everyone is welcome to participate and experience the serenity and blessings of Pradosham at HTSNM.
