Varalakshmi Viratham — The Auspicious Vow to Goddess Lakshmi

Varalakshmi Viratham is a sacred vrata (observance) celebrated predominantly in South Indian tradition, observed on the Friday before the full moon of Shravana. Devotees — especially women — honor Goddess Varalakshmi, a form of Maha Lakshmi, seeking her blessings for wealth, health, prosperity, and the well-being of their families. The word Vara means “boon,” and devotees pray that the Goddess bestows her choicest blessings upon their households. The day includes elaborate puja, tying of the sacred thread (doram), and offerings to the Goddess.

The Hindu Temple Society of New Mexico welcomes all devotees to observe this beautiful and auspicious vrata together.

This date is noted on our temple calendar as an observance for devotees’ reference. There is no scheduled program or gathering at the temple for this occasion. Devotees are welcome to make offerings at home or during regular temple hours.
