Ganesh Chaturthi — Ganesh Stapana (Installation of Lord Ganesha)

Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most widely celebrated Hindu festivals, honoring the birth of Lord Ganesha — the elephant-headed son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, and the beloved remover of obstacles and bestower of wisdom and new beginnings. Celebrated on the fourth day of Bhadrapada, the festival traditionally spans ten days and begins with the ceremonial installation (Stapana) of a Ganesha murti. Devotees offer modaks (Lord Ganesha’s favorite sweet), flowers, and prayers, seeking his blessings before any new endeavor in life. The ten-day celebration culminates with the immersion (Visarjan) of the murti, symbolizing Lord Ganesha’s return to Mount Kailash.

The Hindu Temple Society of New Mexico will celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 with the traditional Ganesh Stapana puja, inviting all devotees to begin this auspicious festival with prayer and devotion.

This date is noted on our temple calendar as an observance for devotees’ reference. There is no scheduled program or gathering at the temple for this occasion. Devotees are welcome to make offerings at home or during regular temple hours.
