Gita Jayanti — The Birthday of the Bhagavad Gita
Gita Jayanti celebrates the day on which Lord Krishna imparted the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra — an event believed to have occurred over 5,000 years ago on the Shukla Ekadashi of Margashirsha. The Bhagavad Gita, meaning “Song of God,” is one of the most profound and universally revered spiritual texts in human history. In 700 verses, Lord Krishna speaks to the heart of every human being, addressing the deepest questions of duty, action, devotion, knowledge, and liberation. Gita Jayanti is observed with recitation of the Gita, lectures, and deep reflection on its teachings.
The Hindu Temple Society of New Mexico marks Gita Jayanti as a sacred occasion for our community to reconnect with the eternal wisdom of Lord Krishna’s teachings and deepen our understanding of dharma and devotion.
This date is noted on our temple calendar as an observance for devotees’ reference. There is no scheduled program or gathering at the temple for this occasion. Devotees are welcome to make offerings at home or during regular temple hours.
