Ashwina Amavasya is the new moon day of the Hindu lunar month of Ashwina, a sacred time for ancestral offerings (tarpan and shraddha), lamp offerings (deep daan), and quiet reflection. It is observed as Sarva Pitru Amavasya (Mahalaya), the concluding day of Pitru Paksha, when offerings are made for the peace of all ancestors.
