Join us at the Hindu Temple Society of New Mexico for the grand celebration of Thai Poosam, a festival dedicated to Lord Murugan, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Observed during the Poosam star in the Tamil month of Thai (January-February), this auspicious day marks the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. It is believed that on this day, Goddess Parvati gifted the Vel (divine spear) to Lord Murugan to vanquish the demon Surapadman, symbolizing the triumph of dharma.
Thai Poosam is a time of intense devotion, penance, and gratitude. Devotees show their dedication by carrying Kavadis (decorated wooden or metal frames), offering prayers, and performing special rituals to honor Lord Murugan. The celebration emphasizes discipline, self-sacrifice, and spiritual growth.
At HTSNM, the festival will include:
- Special Abhishekam for Lord Murugan
- Vel Puja (rituals with the divine spear)
- Devotional Songs and Bhajans
- Archana and Aarti
Come and experience the vibrant energy and devotion of this divine festival. Participate in the rituals, receive blessings from Lord Murugan, and immerse yourself in the spiritual atmosphere of Thai Poosam.
