Significance of Fifty Six Offerings

A lotus has eight petals, surrounded 16 petals, and then again by 32 petals, making it 56 in all. The 56 offerings are symbolic of a lotus offered to Lord Krishna. Just as many ‘Gopikas’ brought offering to Lord Krishna, the ‘bhog’ is always greater than 56. The ‘bhog’ typically consists of different type of sweets. Although, the offerings are not limited to sweets, Krishna accepts all that is offered in love and devotion, even if it is curdled milk.
