Kartika Purnima — Tripuri Purnima
Kartika Purnima is the full moon of the holiest month of Kartika and one of the most sacred days in the Hindu calendar. It is also known as Tripuri Purnima — the day Lord Shiva defeated the three demon cities (Tripura) and is celebrated as Karthigai Deepam in South Indian tradition with the lighting of great sacred fires and rows of lamps. Devotees take holy dips at sacred rivers and tanks before sunrise, light deepams throughout the day, and perform special Vishnu and Shiva puja. This full moon is also associated with the first appearance of Lord Matsya (the fish avatar of Vishnu) and the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
This date is noted on our temple calendar as an observance for devotees’ reference. There is no scheduled program or gathering at the temple for this occasion. Devotees are welcome to make offerings at home or during regular temple hours.
